Hola!
My name is Melanie Munoz and I am one of the Co-Founders of the Lingo Project. I am a second generation immigrant from Cali, Colombia and born in the United States. Going to Colombia every year as I was growing up, truly grew my love for the country, which I never got to live in, but am so deeply tied to.
My Story
Back in 2023 when we started the Lingo Project, we did it with having our friends and family in mind that came to this country with big dreams and hopes to have a better life than that which they had in their country. For me, my family migrated from Colombia to the U.S. because of the drug war back in the 90's. I am so grateful for their sacrifice of leaving their entire life behind so that the generations that came after them would not only be safe, but have opportunities that perhaps would not have been a possibility any other way. I had the privilege of going to Colombia every year as I was growing up, and now we have the opportunity to serve the community there!
On Mission
With The Lingo Project, our vision is to be able to go to Colombia this coming spring and scope out potential new sites, equip volunteers to teach our curriculum and build relationships with the community there. This would help the locals that are living there who are looking to learn English by taking conversation based classes, to better equip them within their workplace, day to day life, and educational goals. After COVID, many digital nomads have moved to Colombia to work virtually and so English classes would open a lot more opportunities to grow and connect with people immigrating there.
