Blog for Colombia.jpg

Hola!

My name is Melanie Munoz and I am one of the Co-Founders of the Lingo Project. I am a second generation immigrant from Cali, Colombia and born in the United States. Going to Colombia every year as I was growing up, truly grew my love for the country, which I never got to live in, but am so deeply tied to.

My Story

Back in 2023, when we started The Lingo Project, we did it with our friends and family in mind, those who came to this country with big dreams and deep hopes of building a better life than the one they left behind. For me, this is personal.

My family migrated from Colombia to the United States during the drug war in the 1990s.

They left everything familiar behind, their home, their community and their stability so that future generations would not only be safe, but would have opportunities that may not have been possible otherwise. I am deeply grateful for their sacrifice. Their courage is part of why this mission exists.

Now, on March 12, 2026, I will be going to Colombia for an extended season.

The beginning of this journey will be spent with my brother, my stepdad, and my mom as we visit Bogotá, Cali, and Medellín.

Then, beginning March 28, I will remain in Colombia on my own for a season of prayer, discernment, and purpose—seeking what God has next. Please keep me in your prayers! â€‹

Why Am I Doing This?

Colombia is a nation full of resilience, beauty, creativity, and untapped potential. Yet many individuals—especially in underserved communities lack access to opportunities that could expand their future.

In many regions of Colombia, English proficiency can open doors in tourism, international business, remote work, higher education, and ministry partnerships. However, quality English instruction is not always accessible or affordable. This creates a gap between potential and opportunity.

My mission during this extended season in Colombia is to steward the opportunity of being present long enough to build something lasting.

While I am there, I will be pouring into our current site, exploring where God may be leading us to open new ones, and discerning where He wants The Lingo Project to grow next.

This time allows space not just for activity but for prayerful direction.

I will be equipping and training volunteers to confidently teach our curriculum, strengthening local leadership so that the work can continue sustainably. My heart is to build genuine friendships and meaningful community relationships that open doors for outreach, service, and long-term impact.

Above all, this mission is about sharing the Gospel through both word and action, demonstrating Christ’s love by serving with excellence, humility, and consistency.

Being present for an extended period allows us to move beyond short-term efforts and instead lay foundations rooted in trust, partnership, and spiritual purpose.
