ENGLISH CLASSES FOR ADULTS
English as a Second Language Classes for YOU
Our ESL classes are designed with both students and volunteers in mind and are accessible to everyone!
Over 10,100 students in Columbus City Schools are English learners, representing 20% of the student population. This also means that an estimated 7,000–8,000 parents have limited or no English proficiency.
The Lingo Project is here to help families communicate, connect, and thrive through English classes. We help adult students feel seen, valued, and included.
Are You Ready to Learn English — or Hoping to Start ESL Classes in Your Community?
We can help! Whether you’re the one learning a new language or you’re feeling called to begin an ESL program in your city, community or country— you’re part of something bigger.
Every class is a step toward confidence.
Every conversation is an opportunity for ministry.
Every learner and every teacher plays a part in God’s story of unity and hope.
We need caring volunteers to help teach ESL (English as a Second Language) classes.
You don’t have to be a professional teacher — just someone with a heart to serve and a willingness to learn. We provide all the necessary materials, and ongoing support

Volunteers do not need to create lesson plans or design devotionals—we provide both.
Every class includes ready-to-use lesson materials for language learning and faith-based discussion guides with Bible verses and conversation questions that encourage reflection and connection.
Each session includes 1 hour and 30 minutes of English learning, followed by 30 minutes of guided Bible-based conversation.
Why ESL classes?
God Makes Understanding Possible
In Genesis 11, we read how God confused the languages at Babel — scattering people across the earth and creating many tongues.
Today, we believe that the same God who once divided language is now helping us bridge it.
As our students learn English, we trust that God Himself is opening their minds to understand, communicate, and connect — not just through words, but through love and grace.
What was once a source of confusion can now become a tool for unity and purpose. “The Lord confused the language of the whole world…” — Genesis 11:9 But now, He helps us understand one another again.
ESL Learners face barriers because of language.
Speaking a new language can be intimidating. Many of our ESL students come to class feeling nervous, unsure, and afraid of making mistakes. Some worry their accent will sound “wrong,” or that others won’t understand them.
Every word spoken takes courage. Every sentence practiced is an act of bravery.
ESL classes help them communicate confidently in daily life (at work, school, or the doctor’s office) - Understand important information (legal documents, job postings, community news) - Feel less isolated and more connected to their new home

“When I arrived in this country, I felt alone — like I was in another world. But when I found The Lingo Project, I met others like me and felt the support I needed to keep fighting for my family. I realized that if they can do it, so can I.”
Adult Student
“By sharing and participating in class at The Lingo Project, I’ve learned to overcome the fear of speaking English. That has been very important for me because it has helped me improve at work and perform better in my job.”

The Lingo Project was founded by Lina Eckhart and her daughter, Melanie Muñoz, a mother-daughter duo with a deep passion for loving God and serving others.
They recognize the importance of empowering individuals through language learning, knowing that many adults in the U.S. miss the opportunity to connect with others and reach their goals due to language barriers.

Their goal is to empower non‑English speakers to thrive in their community.
